Around 3 months ago now I had perfect condition never-been-dyed brown hair. Since then I've subjected my locks to bleach and colour all in the name of being a blondie. To be honest I had (still have) a very basic understanding of hair (treatments, products, techniques, really not my forte) so I didn't really know what I wanted, or how to get it. But my hairdresser, a personal friend, reassured me that nothing bad would happen!
I had put it off for the longest time, through fear of it not suiting me or my hair going a gingery colour instead! But I finally plucked up the courage and went for it. I started off with only partial highlights in a halo, which looked nice, but the blonde pieces looked somewhat out of place in the midst of my brunette locks. So I decided to go back for a full head of highlights, which gave me a much more overall light blonde look!
I love blonde hair so much on anyone, I think it's so summery and gorgeous and really brightens up your face! Then about 6 weeks later after my roots began to show I went back to my trusted hairdresser again. This time we did something different. Because some of the highlights had started to fade to a golden colour, as well as touching up the roots, we did a toner to get rid of any brassiness. Now I have lighter blonde tresses which, as long as my hair can stand it, I would like to keep.
When my hair was brown, it was in very good condition, it felt soft and looked healthy and strong. Now it looks and feels incredibly brittle, I am having to work on the condition with loads of different products (which I will talk about later in a separate post), just to get it feeling healthy and strong again after all the bleach and colouring. I still have to straighten my hair, because I have curly hair that after being blow-dried (who has time to air dry nowadays!?) goes so fluffy and frizzy looking. So heat and styling protection for me is a must even more than usual.
I would advise anyone thinking of doing this to make sure they keep up with maintaining their hairs condition, through conditioners, shampoos and other products. It really makes a difference when it comes to the strength of your hair and making the colour last as long as possible!

Now: My weaker hair, but overall blonde and with maintenance, will regain its strength! |
